Proxy URL - How Access Works

Your ability to access subscribed journals (and other resources) is based on your computer's IP. Every computer has a unique IP, and if your interested in knowing your IP you can easily check it using What's My IP.

The Proxy Server

University resources are accessed by logging into our proxy server.  After looking into the proxy, your computer assumes an IP that is part of the McMaster IP range.

Inserting the Proxy URL to Access Articles

The URL we use to direct you to our proxy server is :

http://libaccess.mcmaster.ca/login?url=

You can put this in front of any URL and you will be prompted to login. For example, let's imagine that you encountered this article on the internet:

Evidence-Based Medicine: A New Approach to Teaching the Practice of Medicine  by the Evidence-Based Medicine Working Group

You can insert the proxy URL in front of the article URL to login for access:

http://libaccess.mcmaster.ca/login?url=http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=400956
